BASKETBALL
NCAA TOURNAMENT

Kansas 61 Southern Illinois 58
The Jayhawks never pulled away from the Salukis but
made just enough free throws - barely - to hold them
off in the West Regional semi-finals Thursday in San
Jose. In fact the Jayhawks needed some bad shooting
luck from SIU in the final minutes to help get the
win, including a missed lay-up and offensive follow
with 2:30 left as well as a missed three pointer by
Jamaal Tatum with :10 left, followed by Randall
Falker throwing away the offensive rebound. Brandon
Rush helped bail out the Hawks as well, hitting all
six of his shots for 12 points, including a couple of
big buckets late. Julian Wright, Mario Chalmers and
Russell Robinson each scored nine for KU. Tatum led
SIU with 19. KU is now 33-4 and will play UCLA
Saturday for a berth in the Final Four. 580 WIBW
will have the broadcast at 4:30.

Memphis 65 Texas A & M 64
Antonio Anderson hit two free throws with :03.1 left
after Memphis was able to get three offensive
rebounds on their final possession and win in San
Antonio over the game Aggies Thursday night. Acie Law
missed a lay-up off a set in-bounds play just before
the final Tiger possession. Dominique Kirk missed a
final long three pointer at the buzzer as the Tigers
won their 23rd straight game. Antanis Kavaliauskas
led A & M with 17 points. Joseph Jones added 14 and
Law 13. Jeremy Kemp led the Tigers with 19. Memphis
plays Ohio State Saturday for a shot at the Final Four.

W-NIT
Kansas State 66 Illinois 51
The Cats shot 50% in the second half and outscored
the Illini 35-21 after the break to put away the
win Thursday at Bramlage. Kim Dietz led the way
with 19 points including five three pointers. Claire
Coggins added 12 and Shana Wheeler ten for K-State.
The Cats will host Auburn in a quarter-final game
Sunday afternoon at 2:00.

BASEBALL
MLB
The Royals were rained out against Oakland Thursday,
leading 4-2 in the fourth inning. The game will not
be made up. The Royals face Arizona in Tucson today.

Luke Hudson is the latest Royals pitching casualty.
The #3 starter will likely go on the disabled list
after a week of experiencing tightness in his right
shoulder. An MRI revealed no damage but the club is
not taking chances with Hudson, who also had
shoulder problems in 2005. Zack Greinke is almost
assured of a rotation spot to start the season with
Brian Bannister and Brandon Duckworth battling it
out for the fifth spot.

FOOTBALL
NFL
Reports from Kansas City indicate the club may be
close to dealing quarterback Trent Green to Miami
for a seventh round draft choice. The holdup
apparently revolves around the Dolphins trying to
re-work Green's contract to lessen the salary cap
hit. Green is scheduled to make over $7 million in
salary with a cap value of over $9 million. Green
started the past six seasons in Kansas City but
tailed off the last part of last season after missing
eight games with a concussion.
