BIG 12 TOURNAMENT
MEN
Kansas State 25 Oklahoma State 15 (first half)
Kansas 80 Texas Tech 68
A late 12-0 run secured the win for the Jayhawks in the quarter finals of the Big 12 Tournament this afternoon at the Sprint Center, the 2000th win in the history of the program. KU trailed only once briefly in the first half, and went up by 12 early in the second half. The Red Raiders eventually cut the lead to 65-63 on a lay-up by John Roberson with 5:55 left. After coach Bill Self called a :30 time out, the Jayhawks scored the next 12 points on three pointers by Sherron Collins and Xavier Henry, two free throws by Collins and lay-ups by Cole Aldrich and Tyrel Reed. Collins led the Jayhawks with 19 points. Henry added 13 and Aldrich and Marcus Morris scored 12 each. Aldrich also pulled down 18 rebounds. The Jayhawks play again at 6:00 Friday night against either Texas A & M, which beat Nebraska 70-64. Coverage on 580 WIBW starts at 5:30.
WOMEN
Kansas State 59 Texas Tech 51
Taelor Karr scored 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her first career double-double to lead the Cats into the quarter finals of the Big 12 Tournament at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. The Cats led nearly the entire way, starting to pull away early in the second half after Karr hit a three pointer. Tech got within two on several occasions, the last with two minutes remaining, but Karr hit another three pointer and Ashley Sweat got a lay-up with just under a minute left to give K-State the breathing room it needed. Kari Kincaid added 14 points and Jalana Childs 11 to help make up for an off-day scoring from both Sweat and Brittany Chambers. K-State, now 14-17, faces undefeated and third ranked Nebraska Friday morning at 11:00.
Oklahoma State 51 Kansas 49 (second half, 94.5 Country)
